Deathstars - Cyanide

This next video I'm going to look at by Deathstars and the Track is called 'Cyanide'. The track is mostly performance based however has a bit of narrative to it that matches the lyrics which is something that I am looking to do. The band performs on a green screen and then there are scenes of a woman in getting poisoned which relates to the lyrics 'now drink to Cyanide'.


Camera Angles and Movement.
The movement of the camera in this video works very well, the camera moves a lot and also more frequently when the music picks up, particularly when the woman is getting poisoned. There are a lot of extreme close ups used which look good, the one I like the most are the ones of the mice and the tap at the beginning. Zooms are also frequent in the video, zooming into the stars eyes, face and mouth. There is also a nice shot where you can see the man in the girls eyes at 3.03.  There is also a close up of a needle of 0.15 which I like which shows the title of the song as well.

Editing and Special effects.
The editing at the start of the video is similar to the start of the Marilyn Manson video, very faced paced cuts of extreme close ups. One thing this video does is match the editing to the beat of the music well, especially in the first 20 seconds.  Special effects such as a green screen and lighting bolts are used, which in my opinion look a bit tacky, however the green screen in this video seems to work, there is also an effect used where there is fire in the singers eyes.

Mise en Scene.
The lighting is low key with flashes of white light and green. The costumes are also dark and I have noticed a trend in this genre of costumes to do with science or surgery. The props used are medical equipment and instruments.
